The Coaching Family Foundation

In 2015 I started this blog and social media accounts for coaches wives, because it can be a challenging and isolating lifestyle at times. Fun and rewarding…but also challenging. Since then I’ve had amazing opportunities to make so many friends with women who “get it” and it has helped me understand that I’m not alone in this journey. I’ve also had many women reach out to me who are struggling in their relationship with their coach or finding a place for themselves in their community. It’s been a really cool ministry opportunity to be able to be an encouragement and share some of the things that have helped me.

Last January the Lord started turning my heart in a new direction. I’ve been a social worker for 10 years, working in non-profits for most of my career. And last year I began to feel called to put together a non-profit dedicated to supporting coaching families, called the Coaching Family Foundation. There are soooo many directions I want to go with it, but to start, it will be a support or scholarship for families in “transition.”

Anyone who follows sports has probably noticed that many teams get a new coach every few years. Coaches often get fired for not winning enough games. Some coaches have gotten fired for only losing 2 games that year, just because they didn’t win the championship. The sports industry is such a fun one to be in, but it can be a very fickle business as well.

When a coach gets fired, a family is left wondering what to do. When the head coach gets fired, that usually means that most of the other coaches on that staff do not get retained by the new head coach. Families are left without an income and that can be a scary thing. That is where the Coaching Family Foundation comes in. Families that are in transition will be able to apply for a scholarship through the foundation, to have some financial support during that difficult time.

Right now I’m doing a “pre-launch” of the foundation, where I’m trying to raise the money to pay the lawyer to file the paperwork, the website, and the other behind the scenes expenses that come with starting a non-profit. If you feel led to give, you can do that here. If you’re unable to give, sharing this page for others to see would also be amazing!

I can’t wait to see how God uses this to help families in a time of need, and I’m so grateful to get to be a part of it!
